Orientation

Welcome to the EngiNet Graduate Engineering Distance Learning Program.  EngiNet courses will be streamed over the Internet.  Courses can be on line within the day of recording.  CDs are provided ONLY if there are problems with streaming. To view a course using streaming over the Internet, your computer will need a  broadband connection (see Computer Requirements).

BU ID CARD

All students registered as a Binghamton University EngiNet student are issued a BU ID card that contains a personal access code (PAC), library number and BU card number.  ID cards are mailed to all EngiNet students within two weeks of classes.  The PAC number http://bubrain.binghamton.edu/ will allow you to view student records, obtain computer accounts and Blackboard accounts.  You can also utilize the University's online computing and library services.  An ID card will be mailed to each student around the second week in the semester.  You are not required to come to campus to obtain an ID card.

COMPUTER ACCOUNT

All students are issued a computer account.  An account will be e-mailed to all EngiNet students within two weeks of classes.  Or, you can contact the Computing Center Help Desk at 607-777-6420 to obtain an account number.

ANGEL – Course Management System

You will be accessing your course work (.pdf file of PowerPoint used in lecture, homework assignments, handouts, etc.)  through a course management system called ANGEL.  A username and password will be e-mailed to all registered EngiNet students.  To get started please go to http://www.sln.binghamton.edu.  To log into Angel you must use your username and password.  Your username is normally the first initial of your first name and your last name (for example jdoe).  Your password is the first initial of your first and last name along with the last four digits of your "B" number (for example jd1234).  Once you are logged in you will see the course or courses that you are registered for located under COURSE(S).  Click on your course and begin.  All class notes and streaming video is located under LESSONS.

If you are a returning EngiNet student, your username and password will be the same as last semester.

TEXTBOOKS

Textbooks can be purchased from the Binghamton University Bookstore, by calling 607-777-2745 or order on-line at http://www.bkstore.com/binghamton.   Also, you may purchase your textbook from any online book seller.  Read the syllabus located in ANGEL to see the required textbook.

PROCTORS

All distance learning students MUST identify a proctor to administer exams.  The proctor MUST NOT be closely related to the student (for example, spouse, relatives, other students or close friends). Usually, the proctor is a manager in the company where you are employed, a minister or a librarian.  A proctor letter is located in the course management system (Angel).  Please have the proctor complete the proctor letter and fax or mail it back to the EngiNet office (877-258-6640).
